Shirase being the one to find and approach Chuuya.
Shirase being the one to shelter Chuuya from the rain.
Tumblr media
Shirase being the one who held out his hand to Chuuya.
Shirase literally taking Chuuya under his wing.
Shirase's arm around Chuuya's shoulders being the first warmth and security Chuuya felt in so long.
Shirase was Chuuya's friend once, Shirase took him in, Shirase taught him what it meant to be a Sheep, the cost of being wanted.
And Shirase failed Chuuya.
Shirase is the one who stuck the knife in his back.
I'M GOING TO BE SICK

one thing i love about chuuya's character is not only his loyalty, but that of others to him.
in the sheep, he was relied on but not fully trusted as leader. it was a job he had to take for no one else could.
in the port mafia, meanwhile, he didn't have to rise the ranks as he did. he need not be relied on but the members trust him, would follow him as leader should mori die.
the sheep were wary of him for good reason, but never had to be. the port mafia doesn't have to trust him as they do but choose to.

here we are with trauma from chuuya… yay?
i wanted to do castles crumbling bc it showed betrayal, and i think it correlates to chuuya being betrayed by the sheep and then ultimately choosing to join the mafia.
(also who knew you can’t screen record in crunchyroll 🙄)
anyways!! enjoy and lmk if you have more ideas or tips still!!

it was hard to not think of the sheep, sometimes. although after joining the mafia, chuuya had gotten good at keeping himself busy. especially since there was much to learn, given the lack of education he'd had as a child. but there were times when he wished he could go back to how it was before. even if living in the streets was hardly something he should want to have back. it wasn't really that he wanted to revisit, but the days where he worried about getting enough food, or the mafia messing with their territory, or simply the safety of his... family. because he had grown to love the mafia now, truly, but they wouldn't ever be like the children who had taken him in when he'd had nothing, known no one, had simply been. the children who had given him a home, no matter the conditions, and had offered their friendship and love. he really did miss them.

The sheep betrayal makes me so fucking emo cause its like, there's a bunch of little homeless kids who help out a fellow kid, no questions asked, only to find out that kid is a powerhouse and he's agreed to tag along and he protects you but instead of feeling protected you get scared of him and the idea that one day he might realize his potential and leave you to fend for yourself once again. And you've seen his power so you know if he ever uses it against you its over. So you do anything you can to make sure that never happens. On the other hand there's chuuya who fights for these kids with his life and thinks of them as family and he's so emotionally attached that even after the betrayal there's no question in his mind about whether to continue to protect the sheep or not. He just does.

Listen up Sparky, here’s the deal:
Shirase at age seven did convince the elder Sheep members to take in a random child Chuuya, even though they had no clue at this point that he could help them and would be a burden. Not because he was a diabolical seven year old. Because at that point, Chuuya was just like him. Its that fact of basic, mundane and immense humanity that carries on Chuuya. Framing this child as inherently manipulative takes away from the literal message of bsd–there is no winner here.
And as things carry on of course they’re going to depend more and more heavily on Chuuya. Look at Akutagawa’s past in Beast! The streets are a terrible, terrible place to live, even without ability users! And of course Chuuya’s going to feel the need take on the burden of it all, what’s the point of boundaries if it gets people-his people-killer? If nobody else can then who? The whole situation means that neither of them are able to grow as people, develop on their own turns, its a symbiotic relationship if anything because in both of them there are different types of strengths but yes, in Shirase and the rest of the Sheep’s eyes, Chuuya’s ability would’ve come before any of it. They would be dead or significantly worse without him–look at how quickly they get taken by the GSS–something which may have been averted if they had the chance to develop into a force instead of relying on Chuuya, but they couldnt and didnt.
Its not insane to assume that Shirase was thinking as a leader. Before Chuuya leaves with Dazai in Fifteen Shirase says he’s been trying to dispel the rumors that Chuuya’s leaving. The Port Mafia are arguably their biggest threat, its only been a year since Mori killed the Old Boss-under which the Mafia were known for their widespread cruelty. It doesnt take a madman to think that Shirase fully believed Chuuya would stay with them over the Mafia. It must’ve been an absolute sucker punch to realise he was going. And then what? How long before the Sheep could stay safe on their own?

Bsd except The Sheep never betray Chuuya and he never joins the Port Mafia.
Aka The Sheep King and his Demon AU
They talk stuff out and while they can have their issues, they are all family.
Dazai continues to show up out of nowhere uninvited.
It goes from "Ah its the Port Mafia!" to "Chuuya! Your boyfriends here!"
"He's not my boyfriend!"
The Sheep treat Dazai like you would a feral cat.
They don't approach him unless he approaches them. They leave food for him, because he'll want there's.
And let him come and go as he pleases.
Dazai has not figured this out and there's a bet going on to see when.
There's also a bet on if Dazai will confess first or Chuuya.
There's also a bet to see if they both realise there's even a bet.
There's a lot of bets within the Sheep.
The entire Port Mafia just pretend they don't see the Demon Prodigy sneaking out with Chuuya Nakahara, King of the Sheep.
Because frankly, they don't have a death wish.

Chuuya being alone in the rain, his world nothing but cold, dark isolation. He has no where to go, no one to belong to. The rain beats down on him until all he can do is curl up on the ground. He can't get up. He can't go on.
Tumblr media
VS
The Sheep offering Chuuya shelter from the rain, his world shrinking down to the size of their umbrellas. He can stay there as long as he stays close to them and no one else, so long as he accepts what little room they made for him and never asks for more.
Tumblr media
VS
Chuuya standing alone in the rain that Dazai seemingly called upon him again, looking down and seeing Dazai in his own reflection. Because Dazai never promised him shelter, Dazai threw him back into the harsh realities of the world again. But he's there, he'll always be there, whether Chuuya wanted it or not. He's tied to Dazai.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm always more lenient to fictional children in difficult circumstances but Shirase can fuck right off. Never before has a character pissed me off this bad.
First off, the fact that he kept bringing up that the Sheep were the ones who gave Chuuya a home when he didn't have one, like they weren't street kids looking out for each other. Like Chuuya didn't give his heart and soul to protecting them, joined the mafia to protect them. Like what kind of fucked up guilt tripping is that. You've known each other since you were 8. The boy's as loyal as you're gonna get. Sure there's viewing him as strong and a pillar and someone who doesn't need help, but then constantly reminding him that they took him in when no one else would? That's straight up insulting Chuuya and all he is as a person. That's such a shit thing to say to anyone.
Second, he's annoying as shit. I wasn't fond of him to begin with when I read Stormbringer but he somehow managed to make me groan every time he spoke. Never have I wanted to punch a child this bad.
Not to mention the poisoned knife. Who could forget that, not Chuuya that's for sure.
His only redeeming quality is that he helped save Chuuya's life in sb. I wouldn't've cared if he died but Chuuya would've been sad so it's fine that he's alive.

y'know. sometimes i'm baffled by how quickly the sheep as a whole were willing to turn on chuuya. like... they all grew up together in a tough situation, you'd think they'd be loyally pack bonded all together or something, right?
but then you remember chuuya is the only one with an ability. he was always an outsider they kept around as defense, at that point. these kids are anxious. the world has been nothing but hostile to them. chuuya is dangerous. it makes sense if you think there was never actually a time once his ability is discovered that chuuya isn't a threat.
and its kind of sad, that all these kids are constantly looking for danger. seeing danger in each OTHER. i post about shirase here and there, but the sheep as a whole group are really just a bunch of anxious kids constantly assessing their threats and choosing the next best protection and the moment a part is a threat to the whole they chop it off.
we see shirase's aftermath, but i like to wonder about where the rest of the sheep ended up after the mafia disbursed them. they're a little older now, they could protect themselves better. get jobs, live off wages instead of stolen goods. maybe for some of them it was good that they were disbanded so they could try at a normal life. some probably ended up in criminal organizations, too used to it. but i hope some of the kids got some kind of peace. they were just normal kids.
like it sucks they yknow tried to kill chuuya that kind of sucked hard. but i get it.
